Colorado Christian University, also known as simply CCU, is a private, interdenominational Christian liberal arts university in Lakewood, which is the most populous city in Jefferson County, in the US state of Colorado, having a population estimated at a number of more than 141 000 inhabitants, during the 2009 census, fact which also makes it the 172nd most populous city in USA and the fourth most populous city in the state.
CCU was established in 1914, first starting as the Denver Bible Institute, which expanded and became Rockmont College in 1949, the institution finally adopting its current name in 1989, after having its name changed a couple of more times, being born from the merger between Colorado Christian College and Colorado Baptist University.
The university currently has an enrollment of more than 3400 students, offering 45 degree programs as well as licensure and certification programs in various fields.
CCU's athletic teams are known as the Colorado Christian Cougars, which compete in both NCAA Division II and NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association), in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, in 12 intercollegiate sports, including in baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball and cross country.
The distinctive colors of the Colorado Christian Cougars are navy blue and gold.
